Revised 3/17/09

The Rogers & Brown House has a fascinating history. In the 1700's it was the home of Dr. Rogers and his wife.
Madame Rogers opened a well known school for young women. The Goodhues later bought the property and eventually
Dr. Brown in 1837 purchased it.
Dr Brown moved the house down County Road to it's current location to make way for the construction of the
Old South Church. The property fell into disrepair from neglect and the owners considered knocking down
the 1700's portion of the house.

Johanne Cassia and Frank Wiedenmann were looking for a property to open an antique shop. The 1800's carriage barn
looked perfect to Johanne even though it was filled with truck parts, cars and junk. She convinced her husband
that they should buy the property so they could open an antique shop in an antique setting. It took the couple
two years to get the shop open and the past ten years to refurbish their home.
They did such a good job they were asked to put their home on the Ipswich Historic House Tour two years ago.
So many people loved the house and asked if they could stay, the couple decided to add a B&B to Olde Ipswich Antiques,
Country Shop and Gallery. Johanne started painting murals on the walls of her home and shop and has started
a new career as an American Folk Artist.
We hope you will visit us in person at the Rogers & Brown House B&B.
