INTRODUCTION

Some of New England's 17th century Houses are open to the Antiquing public and display period antiques in their traditional settings. Many of these Homes have been designated as National Historic Sites.
The major architectural styles prior to the Revolutionary War are described, with drawings,
on the Salem, Massachusetts City Guide.
          
First Period - c. 1626 to c. 1725
           Georgian Colonial c. 1725 to c. 1775

The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (SPNEA) preserves and maintains a number of these Historic Houses. A description of these HISTORIC HOUSES is available on the SPNEA Webpage.

In Connecticut, The Antiquarian & Landmark Society maintains a number of historic Home Museums. This excellent website has a clickable map of their properties.

A book titles "Historic Houses of Early America" by Elise Lathrop was published in 1927 by Tudor Publishing Co., New York. The book has 463 pages and contains many black and white photographs. A copy is available for $75 - contact Ntiquing@aol.com for more information.
